The Jordanian Basketball Federation was established in 1957 by Mr. Abdullah Abu Nawar and became affiliated to the International Basketball Federation in that same year. Basketball proved to be a popular sport attracting many players and spectators from both genders and from all ages.
In 2003 Basketball/Jordan was transformed from an amateur to a professional sport. It is the mission of the present federation to include activities necessary for the development of a comprehensive national basketball program. Athletes are walked through a comprehensive basketball program, mentored and taught how to take charge of their careers from their early learning years all the way through to their professional years.
The Federation safeguards the interest of the players and the sport at large, as well as working to broaden the game to reach all members of the greater Jordanian Community. The Jordanian Basketball Federation is also dedicated in the development of Jordan as a center of excellence in basketball and evolving it into a basketball destination of all game enthusiasts in the region.
