Canadian Women at FIBA Americas
Canada’s Senior Women’s National Team (SWNT) is currently competing at the FIBA Americas Championships in Cuiaba, Brazil. The Canadian squad features 5 BC athletes, Kim Smith, Teresa Gabriele, Kelsey Adrian, Megan Pinske and Leann Evans. The women finished second in pool play and will now face Argentina in the semi-final on Saturday night.

Bill Crowley announced as 15th Ted Earley Award recipient

On September 19th, at the 2009 Canada Basketball Officials Association (CABO) AGM in St John’s NF, Bill Crowley was presented with CABO’s highest recognition; the Ted Earley Memorial Award. This Award is named after one of CABO’s founding members and the first ever President of the Association. Qualification for this award is of such standard that Bill becomes only the 15th recipient and the 3rd from BC to receive it, with the first having been J.A. “Wink Willox” in 1984.

Upcoming NCCP Introduction to Competition Clinic

Basketball BC will be conducting a NCCP Introduction to Competition-Basketball course on Oct. 10/11 at Holy Cross Secondary School in Surrey. The course will run from 8:30am to 4:30pm each day.

This course replaces NCCP Level 1 Technical and Theory. Coaches taking this course work with participants 11-15 years of age. This 16-hour course includes information on ethical decision making, modified games, safety, practice planning and skill development. After completing this course the coaches will be considered “Trained”.

Cost: $194.25 including GST for non-Basketball BC member or $168.00 including GST for Basketball BC member.

2009/10 Regional Training Centre Tryout Dates
During the month of September, the British Columbia Regional Training Centre will be conducting open tryouts in various locations all across BC. Please check out http://edp.basketball.bc.ca/index.php/rtc for tryout dates, times and locations for each region or for more information.

The top grade 7’s to grade 11’s male and female basketball athletes in BC participate in RTC. Athletes attend an initial tryout camp and from there players are selected to participate in the Regional Training Centre program. Registration will be taken at the door.
