UPPER DECK: Finger-Pulling At The State Fair
By Steven Carter -- DB.com

In Rome, you visit the Coliseum. In London, people go to Buckingham Palace. In New York, people hang out on Times Square. In Dallas, Texas, since we don't have any of those other places, people tend to congregate at random places. In the months of September and October, said “random place’’ tends to be at Fair Park. A fair breaks out, the State Fair of Texas.

Josh Howard 'Not Guilty' In Drag-Racing Case
By Mike Fisher -- DB.com

Almost exactly a year ago, Mavs training camp opened up and Josh Howard issued an apology.

This time around, I think we owe him one.

On Friday, Howard was in Forsyth District Court in his native North Carolina, facing charges related to last summer’s drag-racing incident. As it turns out, Howard has been acquitted of engaging in a speed competition.

Mavs Plan To Start Drew Gooden At Center
Carlisle Says Erick Dampier Will Come Off Dallas Bench
By Mike Fisher -- DB.com

Earlier this week, reflecting on GM Donnie Nelson’s hint that Erick Dampier might come off the bench, I suggested that Damp is “still the guy to beat.’’

Well, consider Erick Dampier beaten.

I now know three things:

One: Damp is bothered by Donnie’s statement.

Two: Drew Gooden is telling me he what he bring “to the team is rebounding, being physical and active out there, running the floor … you best believe … I’ll be giving them some speed and athletic ability.’’

Three: Rick Carlisle just now revealed that the plans are indeed to start newcomer Gooden at the 5.

“Our plan is to start Gooden at center on most nights,’’ Carlisle tells Norm on The Ticket.

“Nowitzki And Love: After All He Has Not Given Up!’’
By Mike Fisher -- DB.com

Fortunately for all of us, we’ll likely only have to write about this two more times: Today, and Monday, when at Mavs Media Day the issue of “Broken Cristal’’ will be addressed by Dirk Nowitzki one final time.

But as of right now, he has addressed the issue with the German media just before leaving his native country. So we’ll do the same, with a translation from “Bunte’’ that suggests that The UberMan is ready to -- for a change -- look for love in all the right places.

“I’m open to everything new that comes,’’ Nowitzki says.

FISHTV rolls out a Video Visit with Tim Thomas, and yes, we talk a little basketball and we talk a little about his knee surgery. Tim Thomas that I can kick his ass.

Tuesday Morning Donuts: The Mavs On Stage
By Mike Fisher -- DB.com

“Among the guys up on that stage,’’ Mavs voice Bob Ortegel says to me, “I could grab five of them and put together a better team than some of those 11- and 13-win Mavs teams I used to broadcast. There is real NBA talent up there.’’

Keeping in mind that “new signee’’ Jason Kidd was on the stage, the overall talent level received quite a boost. But what all those guys had to say in front of an AAC audience of Mavs fans and media on Monday did have a positive vibe.

Assorted notes from the day at team HQ -- DallasBasketball.com’s “12 Hours Of Monday Mavness’’ – offered in Tuesday Morning Donuts form:

Do You Want Twitter On Your Mavs TV?
By Mike Fisher -- DB.com

The Phoenix Suns are tinkering with the idea of incorporating Twitter into their in-game telecasts. We decided to use the same sort of technology to ask the question whether the Mavs should use the same technology. In a surreal twist, our quickie survey of Mavs fans has them overwhelmingly dissing the idea of Mavs telecasts involving Social Networking sites … while the Mavs fans themselves were using a Social Networking site.
“If you remember,’’ says Mavs TV play-by-play voice Mark Followill, who we involved in this little survey, “last year we did experiment with some ‘shout-out’-style texting during TV games. We used pop-ups, crawls, drop-downs. … We are always looking to enhance the telecast and enhance the experience for Mavs fans.’’
Here are the top 10 reactions to the idea – plus a little breaking-news nugget regarding something the Mavs are thinking of doing that may serve as an “enhancement’’ …
